聖伯爾納鐸院長（聖師）

聖人在1090年出生於法國方旦，自幼接受良好教育。1113年，入熙篤隱修院修道；不久，被選為格來福隱修院院長，以身作則，革新隱修生活，領導會士修德成聖，成績卓著，各方問道而來的人，絡繹不絕。當時教會發生分裂，聖人便周遊歐洲各地，謀求恢復教會之和平與統一。

聖人有關神學及靈修學著作甚多，且文筆盡露聖經的甘飴，故聖人也被稱為「蜜口聖師」。聖人於1153年安逝。聖人被譽為熙篤會的第二會祖。1830年被尊為教會聖師。

天主，你使聖伯爾納鐸院長，因對你殿宇所懷的愛火，耗盡自己，在教會中發放光明；求你使我們藉他的轉求，也具有同樣的愛火和精神，善度光明之子的生活。因你的聖子、我們的主耶穌基督，他和你及聖神，是唯一天主，永生永王。亞孟。

Saint Bernard, Abbot and Doctor of the Church

Born in France, St. Bernand (1090 – 1153) was a Cistercian abbot and preacher who fought for peace and unity within the Church and against schism. He wrote many treatises on the Blessed Virgin Mary and Jesus Christ as well as on theology and asceticism. He manifested the importance of obedience in living spiritual life.

Collect

O God, who made of the Abbot Saint Bernand
a man consumed with zeal for your house
and a light shining and burning in your Church,
grant, through his intercession,
that we may be on fire with the same spirit
and walk always as children of light.
Through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son,
who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit,
one God, for ever and ever. Amen.
